Acquiring A Healthy Mind, Body And Spirit With Balance In Your Life.

How can one strive to have a healthy mind, body, spirit and still have balance?
It’s a reasonable question. Especially when considering our modern lifestyles. It’s a question as old as time itself. Instead of looking for the answer in the world around us, why not consider looking inward.

Probably one of the oldest cultures in the world is that of the Chinese. With records dating back as far as five thousand years ago the Chinese have had a long time to improve their methods. One of the most significant contributions the world has benefited from is the martial arts. All Chinese martial arts are based on a philosophy of Yin and Yang, which means balance and harmony in all areas of your life. One of the most wonderful paths of self discovery and one of the most widely practiced forms of martial art is Tai Chi.

What is Tai Chi anyway? Tai Chi is a martial art within whose slow and gentle movements are embodied vigor and force, part of the rich culture of China. The movements are extended and natural, gentle and graceful, simple and easy to learn.

Benefits of moving slow quoted from ARTHRITIS TODAY magazine. “Tai Chi- although it is considered a moderately aerobic exercise is done slowly and smoothly which helps to protect your joints. Take a look at the physical and mental benefits that practitioners of Tai Chi and studies say these gentle movements can give you.”

“Tai Chi reduces stress, depression, blood pressure, breathing and heart rate pain inflammation while improving flexibility and balance, strength, circulation, immune system function posture, ability to relax concentration, memory and mental outlook!”

How’s that for striving to have a healthy mind, body, spirit and have balance. Tai Chi is said to be one of the most comprehensive health maintenance form of workout there is, because it embodies all of the needs we are speaking of. It’s a practice that anyone can do and once a certain level of proficiency is acquired i.e. learning the form, one can do practice almost anywhere. In fact, that’s the goal, to able to practice early in the morning in your yard or a local park or on the beach. There is something wonderful about practicing Tai Chi out doors in the fresh air and the energy of nature around you. It’s a great way to start your day. While training in China, it was not unusual to see hundreds of people at 6:00 am practicing in the park together.

One of the most widely practiced forms of Tai Chi is the Yang family style. Grand Master Yang Chengfu, the third generation of the Yang family standardized the training method and essential ingredients that are what we see today. The following are a list of those essential ingredients that set the Yang style apart from other forms of Tai Chi and are included to help develop an appreciation for the depth of such a wonderful art.
